The Short Version

I’m Dave Bour, a technologist, artist, and coach

I grew up in the suburbs outside of Chicago, lived in Boston after college, but I’ve called NYC home since 2012. My degree and professional career is in Computer Science, I’ve built every facet of IT and Security Programs at early stage companies for 15 years. I don’t hesitate to run with what excites me and have taught indoor cycling, yoga, and explore what confession looks like outside of a religious context through confess.nyc. And, I believe plant medicine lessons should be available to all through lighthouseretreatcenter.com.

As of 2022, Dave Bour is 39 years old and living in Chelsea in Manhattan in New York City. Dave grew up outside of Chicago, Illinois and lived in Boston, Massachusetts for 5 years. He has an undergraduate degree from Illinois State University in Industrial Computer Science. His book knowledge in computer systems is supplemented by certifications including the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Comptia’s A+, Network+, and Security+, ITIL v4 Foundations, an ISA(2)’s Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and Project Management Instititute’s Certified Associate Project Manager (CAPM).

Beginning at The William J. Clinton Foundation, Dave worked in the non-profit sector for 5 years before transitioning to New York City to work at startups. Dave is often the first IT professional to join an early stage company (Seed/Series A/B) and uses his experience to build a sustainable future state of technology, a team to support the program, and technical processes to support organizational growth. Dave’s IT leadership in this space is on display through Udemy’s business course, How to Transition from an Individual Contributor to Manager. After a decade of building IT programs at startups (incl. Mashable, ClassPass, and Cityblock), Dave transitioned into consulting and mentorship to reach a wider audience. His work is now focused on standardizing the technical transition from Seed to Series for early stage companies across all industries.

Outside of the technology realm, Dave is a 200hr Yoga Certified Instructor and Schwinn Indoor Cycling Instructor. His experience includes years of practical teaching in fitness instruction along with general certifications such as with AFAA’s Group Exercise Instructor certification and CPR/AED through Red Cross. He regularly volunteers his time through Coalition for the Homeless and the Bowery Rescue Commission.

Dave’s passion for new territory is on display with confess.nyc, a mobile confessional booth used to explore what confession means outside the context of religion. At random, you can find the booth on the street in NYC with him inside. Dave is a Certified Holding Space Practitioner and leans on his training to offer opportunities for vulnerability and healing through this work and personal or group coaching.

Currently, Dave is building a retreat center near Ithaca, NY with a team of facilitators and experts in various modalities of self-discovery and healing. The Lighthouse is a place where small teams can retreat for an all-inclusive, immersive experience to build bonds and develop new skills.
